You should know that there are several types of armoured door, and the most common are:

Burglar resistance classes for armoured doors

Armoured doors are divided into six burglar resistance classes, which indicate the armoured doors’ resistance to break-in attempts (the European standard for burglar-resistant closures is UNI EN 1627-1628-1629-1630) and range from a minimum level (burglar resistance class 1) to a maximum level (burglar resistance class 5).

If you intend to buy an armoured door for a flat in a block of flats, I recommend a class RC3, whereas if you want to protect the entrance of a villa or an independent home, perhaps holding high-value goods, I recommend buying a class RC4 armoured door in Milan.

Moving from class RC3 to class RC4 can add a few hundred euros to the final price.

Armoured door dimensions

The standard sizes of an armoured door are 80-90cm in width by 200-210cm in height.

If your door falls within these dimensions you are in luck, because a custom-size door can generally cost from 10 to 30% more than a standard-size armoured door.

Doors with bespoke panels

If you live in a block of flats, you should know that the choice of the external panel is typically tied to the look agreed at building level.

Like the colour of the windows or the shutters, the armoured doors generally have to be all the same as regards the panel facing the stairwell (the type of panel most often found in Milan and the surrounding province is called “Vecchia Milano“).
